Fred Houston is a retired public school teacher(Pittsburgh Public Schools) and a graduate of Florida A & M University. Houston at 69, is making a career change to the real estate industry. In college he focused on biological sciences. But his first job out of school was working as an assistant press secretary for the governor of Florida. He has worked in sales and marketing for IBM. After relocating to Lake Charles from Pittsburgh, PA in 2005, he taught Physical Science at Barbe High School for one year and he worked as a Housing Advisor for the FEMA Road Home Program for three years. After the Road Home Program was phased out, he was hired by one of the largest title insurance companies in the state as a marketing representative. Six months later the company was sold and all of the employees were laid off.
Part of his role as a marketing representative for the title company was to educate Lake Charles area real estate agents the about the importance of title insurance and the function of title insurance in a real estate transaction. He became familiar with the people at several local real estate firms and decided that the real estate industry was the right thing for him! He passed the state and national real estate exams with flying colors and has been working as a Realtor with Ingle Safari Realty since July 2014.
